Robby Krieger and the soul Savages

Robby Krieger—the iconic guitarist whose sound helped shape the legacy of The Doors—continues to evolve his musical voice through The Soul Savages, a project built on instinct, groove, and improvisational chemistry rather than rigid structure.

The Soul Savages is a collective of seasoned musicians who bring distinct identities into a shared creative space. Alongside Krieger is Franklin Vanderbilt, whose driving rhythmic approach and modern rock sensibility help shape the band’s pulse and direction. Vanderbilt’s presence adds both fire and structure, grounding the music while pushing it forward with intensity and purpose.

Completing the core lineup is Ed Roth, whose harmonic depth and fluid keyboard work expand the band’s sonic landscape, and Kevin Brandon, whose bass lines bring both weight and movement, locking in the groove with precision and feel.

At the center of the project is the creative relationship between Robby Krieger and Franklin Vanderbilt. It is not a traditional hierarchy, but a musical dialogue—Krieger’s decades of expressive, melodic guitar phrasing meeting Vanderbilt’s contemporary edge and rhythmic force. Their connection is rooted in mutual listening: Krieger shaping space and tone with restraint and intention, while Vanderbilt drives momentum and energy from the kit and beyond.

Together, the full lineup forms a rare kind of ensemble—one where experience, intuition, and generational perspective intersect naturally. The Soul Savages becomes less about nostalgia or reinvention, and more about real-time creation: four musicians communicating in a shared language, letting the music unfold honestly in the moment.

"Robby Krieger and the Soul Savages is music for old souls — for those who remember when rock musicians played real instruments. When players recorded their parts at the same time in one room."

“Some of my friends were looking for something to do, so we just started jamming together. I was just giddy about playing with them and seeing what would happen, and just doing it for fun. Somebody turned the record button on one day, and it started coming out like an album”.

Liverpool: Album Review

"If a legend cannot start again and once more search deeply for the passion that propelled them to the top of their profession in a different era, in a different life, then we are doing a disservice to Time. For a legendary figure to aspire to a new beginning is one of enormity, it is satisfying, and it is humbling; and arguably they don’t come much humbler than the former Doors’ founding member Robby Kreiger"

Liverpool: Album Review

"Robby Krieger and the Soul Savages at Vibrato Grill in Beverly Glen Tuesday night. The crowd was thrilled to see Robby and the band. This was a night of laid-back jazz and rock with some blues. Robby Krieger had his trademark SG. He lead the team with Ed Roth on keyboards, Franklin Vanderbilt III on drums and the legendary Kevin “Brandino” Brandon on bass."
